Hello everyone. After much research, planning and convincing DH, our chicks arrived yesterday happy and healthy. So far so good! One question.....they have medicated chick starter and both yesterday and today I fed mashed up hard boiled egg, which they loved. Yesterday they had electrolytes and probiotics in their water but today I switched to Bragg's ACV in the water. How long/often should I offer egg and how much for 7 chicks? Today I mashed up 1/2 of an egg and they devoured it. I can give them more, but I want to be certain they get enough chick starter.

Thanks!

Jen

Hello and :welcome. Here's a couple threads that will help you, I believe with cooked eggs you should be feeding them only the yolk, but check these threads out. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/12/feeding-watering-your-flock and https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. Good luck with your new additions and glad to have you here!

The problem is too many treats (like hard boiled eggs) and the chickens will turn up their nose at regular, balanced chicken feed. Just like kids wanting candy and not veggies. I believe that treats shouldn't make up more than 10% of their feed.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new chicks! X2, limit treats to about 10% of their diet.

Thanks for your help! We wanted to give them a boost with the egg but didn't want to overdo it. So, no egg for them today. They are happy and healthy so far and actually come out from under their heat plate when they hear our voices. They don't run from us and seem to enjoy being held. :P

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

As Diva said offering too much extra treats will affect how well they eat their balanced diet, and tends to provide too much high fat food.

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, eggs are good for them and you can feed the entire egg, yolk and white. But keep it down to once a day so they concentrate on their starter feed.

Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our flock!
