Hi all,

Yesterday was an exciting day. I got what I thought was my first fart egg. But.....

My 8 sex links began laying on Aug. 1st. (not all of them at once, of course) As the month progressed we worked up from 1 to 7 eggs a day but yesterday I got one of those tiny eggs I have been reading about on this site. I had begun to think I wasn't going to get a fart egg at all but there it was - in the nest beside the other eggs - so cute and tiny. But......was it really a fart egg?

The only reason I even wondered if that is what it was is that we have guinneas that we have been raising too. They roost with the chickens, eat with them, and have been testing out the nest boxes right along with the pullets. This morning I found a guinnea in the same nest box with a pullet. Then, on the floor of the coop I found 2 more little eggs - just like the one I got yesterday. I'm now convinced that these are really guinnea eggs. How cool!

One more of the pullets hasn't laid an egg yet so maybe there is hope of getting a real fart egg later. In the meantime I'm glad the guinneas are laying. Wasn't expecting eggs from them until the spring.

Blessings!

Here are my pullet eggs along with the tiny eggs I got from yesterday and today. The guinneas are very young (16 weeks). I have read that it is possible for them to lay as early as 16 weeks. What do you think?

Thanks

I have been getting the tiny eggs for a few months now from my girls. I'm pretty sure they are from my BR. I didn't know they was a name for the odd sized eggs. Mine have no yolk when I open them, is that the way they are supposed to be?

Hmmmm......don't know about that. Doesn't seem possible, does it. Can't you just imagine how cute that would be if it were possible.

I'll have to crack one open and see if it has a yolk. Just found another one outside that was softshell. It just has to be a guinnea. I know guinnea eggs are smaller but these are especially small. Like I said, though, these are very young guinneas.

OK guys. I cracked the tiny softshell egg I found open and it does have a nice yolk in it. I'm new at this. My first chickens, first guinneas, and first post on BYC. In my very limited experience I believe I'm looking at guinnea eggs here. If the moderators would like to bump this posting over to the guinnea page I'll understand. Don't know how any of that works.

Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks
