Hi all,
Yesterday was an exciting day. I got what I thought was my first fart egg. But.....
My 8 sex links began laying on Aug. 1st. (not all of them at once, of course) As the month progressed we worked up from 1 to 7 eggs a day but yesterday I got one of those tiny eggs I have been reading about on this site. I had begun to think I wasn't going to get a fart egg at all but there it was - in the nest beside the other eggs - so cute and tiny. But......was it really a fart egg?
The only reason I even wondered if that is what it was is that we have guinneas that we have been raising too. They roost with the chickens, eat with them, and have been testing out the nest boxes right along with the pullets. This morning I found a guinnea in the same nest box with a pullet. Then, on the floor of the coop I found 2 more little eggs - just like the one I got yesterday. I'm now convinced that these are really guinnea eggs. How cool!
One more of the pullets hasn't laid an egg yet so maybe there is hope of getting a real fart egg later. In the meantime I'm glad the guinneas are laying. Wasn't expecting eggs from them until the spring.
Blessings!
Brenda
