yes I know about the ventilation, it is getting some shortly (no chickens living in it yet). I'm doing a cutout on the side you can't see and on the side with the small door up near the roofline and covering it with hardware cloth. the new coop is the square boxy one. I am attaching a small run to the side and that is why the plywood looks awkward because I am going to roof the run as well (plus my husband wanted to 'do the roof' and that's what he did lol). then it's hardware cloth around the run and bottom. the old coop is the one that has screen you can see. that one is screen all the way around and coop on top. I just wanted to build a different one that is easier to clean. the old coop is getting a better fence around the run. the new coop is build in the dog run we no longer use. neither is fancy but they will be nice secure homes for my little egg layers. Not sure which is your new coop. The white box type structure in top picture, or the shed type bottom picture with the screened front
.
The white structure is lacking ventilation. I know you don't get extreme colds in your location, but ventilation is necessary year-round regardless of weather conditions.

Thanks for the idea. We do get a LOT of rain here. You can never have TOOOOO much ventilation. If you do decide to place some above the front door, I suggest you use a louvered cover to keep out rain. Something in this fashion. Your overhand is not that large.

Yes its definitely something to plan for here. I placed the coop where I did because it will be sheltered from storm winds. There shouldn't be any wind hitting it directly which will also help when the rain is coming down sidewaysI know your area climate is similar to Seattle, so that is why I suggested keeping rain out.![]()
