Expecting a hatch day tomorrow... Not confident

OMG How do you resist??? I am in awe...................

I candle mine twice. First time is around day 7, only because I set eggs weekly, so at day 7 any non-developers get pulled to make room for the new ones. Second time is when they go to the hatching incubator. Eventually the excitement wears off

Well to start with I have no light to candle them with. Second of all, most of them are green and I can't see in them anyway. I did however get a small clip light to go with my nook so I would read at night and I found that it was effective on the silkie eggs that I just hatched. I candled twice, once to see if the light was strong enough for that, which it worked on the white eggs but not the green ones and second time was to show my kids what it looked like. If I has a nice light source, I probably would candle but as of right now, I just dont.

LOL...yes,I'm sure it does at that hatching rate! JC...why so many?
To the OP...
I have 44 in my bator right now and am not sure yet what I'm gonna get as they are all young layers and barnyard mixes. On top of that...I have only hatched once before and got 9/13.My new (cheap) incubator is holding temps fairly well but there is some fluctuation. Also it took a while for the humidity to get up to snuff. For candling,I just use a LED small flashlight,it works ok but not well enough for darker eggs.If you did it ten yeras ago,you can do it again! Here's wishing you the best

It's not many right now, I'm just hatching whichever breeders lay eggs. A few OEGB, a few marans, and some EE mostly. Though a friend is aiding my addiction by supplying me with about 30 serama eggs a week...good thing his fertility sucks right now

Aside from the serama, I set 5-10 a week.

I have read that seramas are harder to hatch but I don't know why. I don't have any. You may want to research them before you get them in the bator.

I've got 16 youngsters in the house right now, 5 of them are 4-days-old.

ETA: The last ones I set had 14 clear eggs at day 6, so it's the fertility. But the reason he's bringing the eggs to me is because they aren't laying very much and he doesn't want to turn his big bator on. Only 1 of the clears had any signs of development (blood ring), the rest were totally clear.

Why I set 5-10 eggs a week? Because I'm not getting enough eggs to sell them and I just can't bring myself to 'eat' (aka--feed to the chickens) eggs that look like this:

Or eggs that might turn into birds that look like this:

Technically, I'm 'saving' the serama eggs since he was just throwing them away

Can you imagine throwing away these?? (excuse the duckling

That is my splash OEGB cock, he's a looker for sure! I edited the above post again with a pic of the new serama babies--the ones I saved from the trash.

And I know! If he were feeding them to his chickens I wouldn't mind it that much, but to just waste them!?!?!
