Hello Everyone!
Just touching base with all of you, I no longer have my 4 RIR roosters they all went to a good home last night, I now only have 2 hens and my coop looks so naked so.....I went online and ordered lots and lots of chicks. All are pullets and I am getting a mixture of Barred Rocks and White Plymouth Rocks! Very very very excited! I will have their own little nursery set up for them with a heat lamp, food, water, bedding, etc. I am curious though if they are week(s) old is it okay to let them outside in a little penned area in the grass? I live in MD and it has been getting 80s-90s here during the day ( I have sun and plenty of shade in my back area for my birds) and at night maybe 60s-70's. Also, since the chicks will be days old when they arrive, how long should I wait to introduce them to my RIR hens? I know chickens have their pecking order to establish ( just like any animal in a herd/flock) and I don't want my hens to hurt the chicks, I don't think they would but I am always cautious introducing any new animals to my pack here at home. Any comments or info is greatly appreciated!
Thank you BYC!
