Expelling soft shelled eggs

I have noticed egg yolk on the bottom of the coop for a few weeks and had been blaming a hen for egg eating. I separated the hens to try to determine which hen. I have witnessed all three hens jump on an egg laid outside the nest box . Now the weird part. I came home to find one hen fluffed out wings out to her side and looking funny. I went to pick her up to examine her and an egg actual shot out and hit the coop wall !!!!! It's not an exaggeration! It splattered and they all ran to gobble it up. I can add grit , but what caused it to be expelled like that?

It's not grit you want, it's oyster shell. Or you can crush up egg shells and feed that back them for a few weeks. Are they on regular layer feed? I've been told that adding ACV to their water is supposed to help them absorb calcium better??? Not sure whether that's true or not though....
As to why your hen went off like a potato gun, I'm clueless. My guess it that the egg was a bit lodged (as happens with soft shelled eggs sometimes), and you picking her up added just enough pressure to unlodge it suddenly???

I have been feeding all the birds a layer diet w some extra additives of my own. I know to add calcium, but I have never seen an egg expelled in such a manner! None of the other hens have had any problems so I am left to believe its something with this hen.
