I have two hens that are four years old and 7 pullets that are about 6 months at this point. Our cockerel who came with our 7 pullets developed an orthopedic issue and had to be euthanized so we searched for a new cockerel/rooster to join the flock. I found one on the local classifieds site that is about 5 months old. Anyway today I let him out with everyone in the morning and I was expecting to have to separate him since our 4 year old cochin hen can be pretty bossy. Needless to say he was a lot more assertive than our last cockerel that was very easily put in his place. She went after him and he fought back after grabbing each others combs a few times she backed down and he slowly walked behind her pushing her around for a bit and now he has settled in with everyone quite nicely. Frankly I am surprised it went as well and as easy as it did. I love his personality as well he went right about talking to all the girls and sat down next to one of them that was working on laying an egg.

For context our late cockerel was a Jersey Giant and the new one is a Mottled Houdan.
