Experience w/ Murray Mcmurray?

I have had good experiences. I got reserve champion pen of three roasters with thier cornish roasters. The other chicks were very healthy birds. good for small fairs, but you wont get any better than that, They are hatcheries not breeders!

I just placed my order last week, so I don't know what kind of surprise I will get. I will let you know though! I've heard nothing but good reports from some locals around here. Good luck and best wishes!

I order from Murray last year and I got Andalusians. One is beautiful and pretty good as far as the Standard of perfection goes. THe other is ugly as far as the standard goes for the breed. So like any hatchery it is a hit or miss. Like I have said before, "You want show birds get them from a BREEDER!"

Here is Merryweather the pretty girl

And Lucinda the not so pretty sister.

Good Luck

Iordered my RIR from mcMurray and have been very happy with my purchase. I only lost1 but as soon as i noticed it was sorta wilting I immediately removed it from the others and the rest are doing well, laying every day I ordered 23 females, and 2 roos, and that is just what i got.

Owned by !2 RIR,1 pittbull,1 poodle mix,1 yorkie, and 1 cat( now know as FatCat), He was a drop off someone didn't want

We ordered our day-old Banties from MMH last year and was happy with the chicks.

When you order from them, they "supposedly" give you an option on the Free Rare Breed. I opted NOT to recieve the free chick but it was sent anyways. I wasn't too happy about ending up with a lone Silver Spangled Hamburg, and a Roo, at that. As it turned out, the SSH is one of my flock favorites (have 7 SSH eggs in the bator).

Packing "hay"...

The chicks at 4 days old...

To see recent pix of our flock, check out My Page. Each breed has their own page.

MMH was a great way to go since I was getting back into chicken keeping (after almost 20 years). The only reason we won't order from them again is because I have a bator now and I'd rather hatch my own birds.

Hope this is some help!

I am putting in an order to McMurray in a week or so. I've decided to get 12 Araucanas (I am intrigued by the colored eggs) and I also ordered the "Rainbow Layer Assortment" which is 25 assorted pullets from good egg laying breeds. For fun I added what they call the "Homesteaders Special" which is 10 brown egg pullets, 2 geese, 2 ducks and 2 turkeys. They choose the breeds and it is ST except the pullets. I have a creek and a pond in my front yard, so the ducks and geese will be happy. And of course, I have my foundation bird, the one that got me hooked on chickens. My little demented silkie! I have a feeling she will be mainly a house pet for quite a while. Then I'll make her her own little pen with a quiet, non agressive buddy or two.

Storm horse, or anyone else that ordered from Ideal, I have placed an order, the chicks will be sent out in mid march, I was reading a post earlier that people were saying they loose lots of chicks in cold weather, and this is my first time ordering chicks, what is your experience with ordering chicks in the the early part of the year, it should be warming up by March.
