Experienced hatchers!!! I need an answer as a first timer

Hi! Yes, it's probably blood. When a chick first pips, there are still *live* blood vessels surrounding it. Sounds like your chick pipped into one (most times they don't, but sometimes they do), but it should be fine.
As long as it's not actively bleeding, the chick is good. Not a bad thing and it doesn't need help.
Good luck with your hatch!

ps: there are folks that would say pips on Day 19 indicate temp is too high. you might want to investigate that later (nothing to do about it now).
good luck!

That chick hatched successfully (He was just late to the party). 11 chicks out of 18 eggs. Not horrible for my first time. Still bummed about the other seven eggs.

Don't let that bother you. Depending on the circumstance, that hatch rate is actually very good. Just as in nature, only a percentage make it, no matter what you do. It's a fact of life, if you hatch eggs, some will not hatch or will die in the process.
