Experienced rooster keepers

I have had chickens for a long time and even had a few accidental cockerels. But I have never until now been able to keep a rooster. Usually once they started crowing, they had to go. Now I NEED a rooster.
My question is how to raise him (if possible) not to be an asshole. I am getting 8 week old pullets and a cockerel as of yet undetermined breed (depends what is available). I have a 3’ x 10’ tractor (coop is 6’ x 3’). I plan on keeping them in there for a couple weeks until they get the hang of putting themselves into the coop at night. After that they will be allowed to free range during the day. Their coop will be under a grove of trees with forest on one side and pasture on the other. Predators include raccoons, coyotes, bob cats, hawks and black bear. I have kids so I have to have a good rooster or chicken soup. There is no wiggle room. Any advice appreciated but I would prefer advice from people who have been keeping roosters for a while. I have read @Shadrach article on rooster behavior and @Twilia article on taming naughty roosters.

With the predators that you mentioned, free range will most likely not turn out well regardless of the cockerel.
That would be an entirely separate thread honestly. I am well aware of the predator issues and also of exactly where each of them are. We have had trail cams up for months. Trying to stay on-topic

Do you have older hens? If you do, keep him with them.
I do not. I have debated getting a couple grown hens just for this purpose. If it comes to that I can make it work I suppose. I just don’t like the idea of that many birds in the coop I have. This coop is only meant to be temporary until the giant barn on our property has a stall ready for them.

Hmm.
His temperament is up to him, I've never had started pullets and a cockerel before

I just handle mine from day 1 to adulthood. All of mine have turned out friendly. Some of which are shy(Flighty), but not aggressive.
I've only had very few aggressive roosters/Cockerels. Those ones were genetically human aggressive, so they became food.

Me neither. I’ve always raised chicks. I know better than to get a full grown rooster and throw him in with pullets but it might be worth getting one hen to raise with them all. If i get them the same day it shouldn’t be too rough
