experiment time- crock pot hatching project,* update

When I was a young girl, one of our hens laid an egg and we snatched it up. My dad put it in a metal coffee tin and we put a light bulb in there with it. It hatched! Might be worth trying. (As for my little chicken, Eric...my beagle ate him.) I'll never forget hatching that chicken with a light bulb and a coffee tin. So cool!

thank you for the input! I just tried to check them and I just see a big dark spot  that seems to have gotten bigger since Friday but no veins but I am using a broken flashlight. Is that sounding good or no? I think I will crack open a new egg tomorrow and see if I can tell if they are fertile.

Have you read any threads on making a homemade incubator? There are some easy nifty ones out there.

And the rooster is either a Blue Orpington, or an Andalusian.

This information is from research of course, but if someone else wants to put in there 2 cents, that's just fine.

Not an Orpington, wrong body type and too small. I have an Orp cockerel(7 months old). Look at my pics at bottom of my profile to see what I mean.

I see veins before I see a spot, so I'm guessing the egg is rotten. Eggs can go rotten under very wet conditions, I am guessing, that because you wrapped the egg in the damp towel, that it got the egg really damp, and the egg couldn't breathe.

I didn't check the egg yet, but today I did let my girls out while he was in the yard and he mated my lavender Cochin. I know she wants to be broody, so what can I do? Do I just let her sit on her eggs? How many will she lay? Should I take them and do something else and wait until I have a handful? Thanks for your help with my experiment!
