Explaining death to a 3 year old

My neice was 2 1/2 when her daddy died (she's 3 1/2 now). He was in a car accident. The night it happened she told him that he will not be coming home any more, he is in heaven. She took her outside and pointed out the brightest star they could find and that's her daddy star. When she sees the brightest star at night she says hi to her daddy. Her baby brother has a star too, he was stillborn 7 months after his dad passed.

She's never asked when will her dad or brother come home...

Kids don't understand like adults do (not like it's an easy thing to understand), but they know (if that makes sense). It may just take him some more time to really come to terms with it. But maybe having a grandma star would help?
