**** Exploding egg emergency ****

My first exploding egg was one of my first hatches and I had smelled a bad odor just standing by the bator checking the temp. So I opened it and found the offending egg and as I picked it up and was moving it to the garbage it busted in my hand and my hand was over a storage tote we keep shoe in. Yep. all over the shoes. After I quickly cleaned everything up and got the smell out of the house I learned to take a wiff from time to time. As soon as I smell something out of the ordinary I smell every egg till I find the bad one and very carefully remove it.

That was in experience that is imprinted in my brain. I don't want that to happen again. I never put eggs in my incubator that are over 7 days old. When I get shipped eggs I want them to ge here on or before day 7.

Final update....a bit delayed...

...of the 10 eggs, 9 developed until the end. 3 hatched, 2 partially zipped and then died in the shell, 4 died within the last couple of days.

I ended up seeing a 30% hatch rate for the eggs that were developing at the time of the exploding egg. I am certain that the exploding egg hurt my hatch, but I did get some chicks...so I am happy.

Thanks. I am too.

Actually I decided to post my results on this thread because I found a lot of threads where people had eggs that exploded, but none that gave results either positive or negative. I hope someone will find this thread when they think that all hope is lost and find that maybe it won't be. I will say though, I didn't have any of the exploded egg get on my other eggs...I would imagine that could change things as well.
