I have a question. I am having eggs (rotten of course and very very smelly) explode in my sportsman incubator. They were exploding sometimes when I touched them to put them into the hatcher and just the other day I had one explode while I wasnt home and came home to a horrific odor. Any ideas why this is happening? I have never had incubating eggs explode like this so Im wondering what is different. Its not from specific breeds or specific sources just random eggs.

Are these shipped eggs or your own? Could you have some mold or bacteria growing your incubator that is spreading to the eggs?

It may be that your first egg introduced bactira and some others have fallen to it , I dont know Im not expert and have only had one funky quail egg befor.
Im shure someone will know more .

I would say they are old eggs. I have had a sportsman for four years now and never had one explode. I did have some shipped to me that started to ooze, but obviously they were old eggs, only one hatched.

you know now that I think about it they are some of the older eggs. None of them are ones that my chickens laid. They are all ones I have gotten from other people. I am waiting on the eggs I have in to finish hatching so that I can break down everything and give it a good thorough cleaning and disinfecting to make sure its not bacteria.

I was wondering about that, I had some eggs shipped the other day and it looked like they were oozing yellow stuff, but I put them in the incubator anyway. Does that mean that they are old eggs?
