Extended hawk attack and large open wound - what treatment?

Dog crates in the coop are a very good way to keep her separated with her own food and water, while having regular supervised free ranging together with the flock.
I have also used some metal sectional fencing from Lowes that is easily connected into a circle pen. The top should be covered with netting. It can be dismantled and stored until you need it again. It works great with introducing chicks.

Hi, just wanted to give a quick update for anyone who followed this thread. Caramel is fully back to her old self and all of her feathers have grown back. She was always bottom of the pecking order, and that has not changed, but she has been back with the girls for over a month with no further issues, and today she laid her first egg since the incident (although this may also have been due to the short winter days). Thank you so much to those who provided advice and support.

Yay so good to hear. She is gorgeous :love

Soooo very pretty and such good news. I told my chickens about your Caramel's wonderful outcome and they were unmoved by the conversation. I, on the other hand, was thrilled to hear the news. Eggs as well..........Little Caramel Rocks!!!!!!!
