External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

46 hours- So, little one was rather talkative this morning. I could see some of the inner membrane had dried and pulled away from the outer membrane. Still in same position, no progress. I went ahead and put a small hole in the air cell to check for blood veins. There were two very very small ones that appeared when I wet the membrane so I went ahead and put little back in for now. I’m going to watch carefully. I don’t think little one can rotate. There is so much movement and the appearance of trying to turn but absolutely no progress. I’m not going to rush it but I don’t want the duckling to give up either.

Other two eggs were pipped this morning! Some have multiple pips and some just the one still. We are getting very excited that we will have some fluffy babies today or tomorrow!

I snuck out to check on our broody girls in the coop. We have a duckling!!

Little one is out!!! I did have to assist a bit. Little one had its head between the legs and bum in the air cell. I don’t think the membrane was stuck to it but something definitely was stopping it from rotating.

Our 2am pipper has just increased his pip hole size and poked his bill out! I see a foot on top of the bill! I’m going to try to get a photo! How likely is this baby to hatch on its own? 😬

Ok! 2am pipper, foot above bill hatched completely on its own! It seems the waste was in the air cell end and it did push its head right through it… baby is very sticky with all the gunk. I wiped off what I could. Should I bathe it quick and back into the heat?

Hatchling #3 popped out about 10 minutes ago! Wow… zipping is FAST!

Congratulations! I'm so glad they've both hatched successfully. It sounds like the first one was probably malpositioned.

I think you could bathe the second one in warm water, but maybe it would be better to just wipe it and see if it dries up normally on its own. I'm not sure.

The mom and her duckling are adorable! :love Oh and so is the one in the incubator!

We are up to 6 total now! One in the coop and 5 in the incubator/brooder!
#1 hatched- 3:15pm
#2- 4:15pm
#3- 5:15pm
#4- 6:30pm
#5- 11:30pm

We have one more external pipper who we are waiting on and then the three who were a few days behind… they are all three internally pipped though!

I did try to wipe off 2am pipper. There was so much yuck on it’s little head, it was so sticky and very stiff! I got as much off as I could and then tucked it in the heat and it has fluffed up pretty nicely! A few areas are still a bit stiff but the little one is doing great! I was so worried the heat was going to make it worse instead of better. I didn’t realize what it actually did for them with that.

The ducklings are mixes so I have spent the better part of the night trying to figure out who mama’d who. 🤣 We only have one drake so there is no question about dad. Lol!
