external pipping at 24 days help??

Hi I'm new to this site and hatching!! I've got three hatching white campbell duck eggs on day24, I woke this morning to find one egg
had already externally pipped!! 12 hours later and the little fella is still moving his beak but I'm afraid he won't survive!! and what about the other two? I wasn't meant to go into lock down for another day and I'm afraid to open the incubator in case the humidity drops!! nobody warned me hatching would be this scary!!!

Well, I am not a hatcher, but I have read that duck eggs take quite a while to complete hatching, and it sounds like you have good instincts about not opening the incubator at this point.

One reason I haven't hatched eggs yet is I don't know if I have the nerves of steel that it seems to take!

You might try checking in on the thread Thread Formerly Known as Hatch Day is Today, as it seems to be a long-running thread mostly related to hatching.

If the bator ran slightly warmer they can hatch early. Leave it be, if you see a beak it has air and the last thing you want to do is open it. As you already mentioned you don't want the humidity to drop, so better to not open now that one has externally pipped.

They can take 24-36 hours to turn and zip and hatch, so no worries. Once it is out I would still not open the bator as it could cause the other not to hatch. The first can stay in there for 48 hours post hatch without worry.

Many thanks for your comments. It's been over 36 hours now and I can't see any sign of movement, we're into lock down now so fingers crossed even if the first little fella doesn't make it the other two will have a chance. Humidity between 80-85% is that adequate? I'll keep you posted!

Sorry to hear the little fella isn't moving, but have my

for the two other eggs. My incubator automatically adjusts humidity so I cannot advise on that.

Thanks guys, the little fella is definitely gone, If I'd had more experience I think I may have saved him, cos when I took him out of the incubator I realised part of his beak was still in the membrane so I guess he suffocated as I chipped a little of the shell away and he looked perfect!! I didn't realise how big their beaks were!!!

No movement from the other two eggs, they're day 26 now, but as they were all set on same day, should they not all have been at same stage? could they be dead!!

OOhhhh soooo stressfull!!! lol!

You can always do a quick candle to see if they have ne'er ally pipped or not moving at all.

We candle at day 7 and 10 removing bad eggs, again at day 14, and before locking down to check for internal pips and bad eggs.

Can anybody give me some advice please!!! the two eggs I have left both have good air sacs but I couldn't detect any movement, but to be truthful I haven't really seen much movement even when I candled them through the hatch, I could just tell they were growing by the fullness of the egg.

But now one has got a dark shadowy patch ( bit like a fissure) on the air sac end. Could this mean it is dead and rotten? no smell or leaking.

Day 28 tomorrow temperature and humidity are stable, and apart from a very quick candling on day 26 I haven't touched the incubator!!!!
