Do you have to crush the oyster shell more than it already is for Pekin ducks? My first 3 eggs were soft shells so I know they need it.

I too have noticed that in the 50 lb bag of crushed oyster shell I recently purchased the pieces were awful large. I thought about re-crushing it because the chickens seem to pick through it looking for the smaller pieces anyway. Then again..... What do I know!

I see this as well.

Do you think the bits are big, or are the ducks actually haveing a hard time eating them?

I have used several different brands of Oyster Shells, and the ducks always seem to get them down fine.

Also note that soft-shelled eggs is common when they first start laying. They need time to get there "system" up and running correctly.

Just wanted to share to all that replied. We started getting solid eggs today with good shells! We also separated the boys and girls because we’re not going to hatch until spring. Started giving the girls some occasional treats, they love lettuce and strawberry tops. 🤗
