My Khakis (3 hen, 2 drake, all 6 months old) have had free access to oyster shell for a couple months now but hadn't been touching it. Within the past week or so, I have started finding some at the bottom of their water bucket every day, so I can only assume they're eating it. They still haven't started laying, and being down to only 10 hours of daylight where I live already, I didn't think they would start this year at all. Should I expect some eggs soon? Or does the oyster shell need to be taken away until spring if they're gonna eat it and not lay.
