Mealworms are a good source of protein, and are a favorite of most!

Fish, or meat. Meal worms are fine but they are fairly high in fat content.
Despite the chickens here being free range with good foraging opportunities and getting fed a low fat, low calcium commercial feed, I still give them a small amount of tuna or lean meat two or three times a week.

My chickens think wet feed (consistency of batter) is amazing and go nuts for it! Sometimes I add scrambled eggs with the shells crushed up.

I’ve fed them meats too, and they are gone in a split second. They’ve been fed canned fish, leftover beef, and chicken.

However, for human entertainment purposes and a treat for the chickens, I’ll suggest taking some grapes (cut in half or fourths), and some blueberries (whole) and then one by one, toss into run or throw for them. Watch the chase and competition. They get exercise and a treat, you get giggles.
