Extra light in winter for more eggs. Good vs Bad

Fred's Hens :

Winter means hibernation for everything. The leaves come off the trees, everything goes dormant. It is nature.
Worth it absolutely when spring arrives and everything comes back to life. Not for everyone, but I love the seasonal shifts and changes, the cycle of life.

Me too- there is nothing like spring in northern Michigan after months of winter- I can't imagine it any other way.

I do not give mine any extra light and I had eggs all winter. I did not have full production from them, but out of five hens I almost always got at least 3 eggs each day. A couple of them seemed to cut back a little. If I had to guess I would say it was our RIRs that were the most consistent layers in the winter.
