Extreme Couponing Show**Update pic heavy**

DH and I watched an episode the other night, the one with the twins. They spend 20 hours a week cutting coupons. That doesn't include the time it takes them to drive to the various stores and the fuel. They didn't save enough for it to be worth my time. I clip coupons out of the Sunday paper and print some online, but I don't think any stores near me double the coupons. HEB usually has some nice buy this and get 5 items for free sales. Typically, we save about $20 a week with our coupons. Honestly, what is that one guy going to do with 1,000+ tubes of toothpaste?

Other things not covered:

Paper and ink for the printers to print out a 1000 coupons for toothpaste

Cost of papers purchased, makes me wonder how many of those people are the ones that buy a news paper from the stand, open the door and steal all the coupons from all of the other papers in the box.

What they paid for coupons bought on eBay (including shipping)

Plus the loss of time spend cutting, the racks to store, the loss of space in their homes....etc

This is a full time job for these people. So, imagine that they could make $40,000 a year. Or even $25,000 a year on the low end. Are they saving that much? No. I "save" more money working a real job and just paying for my food.

Couponing on the side is one thing. But making it a full time job just so you can "hoard" a bunch of stuff you'll never use? No thanks.

I liked the one lady that bought a month's worth of food. She was realistic. She didn't buy years worth of food that included things she didn't even like or want to use (like a zillion bottles of mustard). She planned her meals for the month and bought food to feed her family for that month. That would be the way to go.

It's not saving money if you don't use the item.

So excited! Look what all I just bought for only $2.69!!! (After tax)

At Dollar General:
Nivea originally priced at $2.50 had 5 coupons for $3 off (Found in last Sunday's paper) so they gave me $0.50 for each one

Degree travel sized was $1 had coupons for $1 off so FREE

razors were $2 off and proced at $2.50 so I only paid $0.50

diapers were $4.50

4.50+.50-2.50=2.50!!

nope not allergic and I am trying to stockpile certain things that have a decent shelf life that we use.

I mainly use coupons for toiletries and things. I still use coupons for food items, but only if it is a really good deal!

I am a stay at home mom so I have time to clip coupons and I find it enjoyable to find great deals-especially for things that we will use!

also I really needed the diapers and we are SO short on cash this week! These gas prices are killing us!

I haven't seen the show, nor have I read all the posts, but I can say that I got into this extreme couponing thing about 10 years ago. At first I was thrilled with my savings. I even got "Coupon Saver of the Month" in a local newsletter and won a $50 gift card for Target. The reactions of the cashiers was priceless, seeing hundreds of dollars come down to like 40 bucks! But eventually I got VERY sick of all the work involved. It took WAY too much of my energy, keeping track of them, shopping at various stores on various days depending on the deals, checking all the papers, etc. It just wasn't worth it to me. I had to put a value on my time, and it outweighed the savings. If I had a bunch of free time on my hands, and the energy for this, sure. But it got old real fast. Now I just stick to generic items, things on sale, or the occasional coupon worth clipping.

DH and I watched this for the first time this week. I understand using coupons for things you need, but 70+ bottles of mustard, 117 bottles of pain killers, 103 boxes of cereal!? I don't understand. We have to be careful what we eat, no or low salt for DH, and no sugar for me so we would not do well with this, most of the stuff I saw them buying was unhealthy, high sugar stuff, plus I can't see stocking all that stuff all over the house. We also don't have any stores nearby that double coupons. Also can't see us spending all those hours clipping coupons and organizing everything.
