My real name is Wendy. I chose my username because I wanted something chicken-y and that spelled out how my husband sounds when he makes chicken noises...
I mean no disrespect to anyone. Fowl or Human.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am very new to chickens. As in, I've been lazily researching for 2 years, and then took a deep dive right in when opportunity arose. Our first chicks were picked up and brought home on Feb. 25, 2013.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 15.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have Buff Orpingtons and Blue Copper Marans.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I found out about BackYardChickens.com by putting a search for Orpingtons in Google. The first 10 or so links came back to BackYard Chickens!!! And I have lurked here off an on for awhile.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I LOVE TO COOK and BAKE!! I also love to read, hunt, fish, and most importantly I love to spend time with my children.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married to James, and we have five children. Three boys and 2 girls, ages 13, 10, 8, 3 and 2 years old. We are learning to live a more sustainable life and have been blessed with being allowed to be caretakers of 121 acres near Quaker City, Ohio. This is a learning experience, that has been a great journey so far, and I hope it continues to be so. We are hoping to instill a respect for land, animals and family in our children and have made some incredible leaps of faith to do so. I am a stay at home mom, who is trying to fight modern society's ideas that being at home means I am less of a person than those mothers that need to go to work. We are hoping to eventually have horses and a few cattle and someday, we will have a family dog. Really, I want a simpler life. I am finding my simpler life, and loving the fresh air I get to breath, manure and all, in the journey!!
