Hello there,
I am reaching out because our little red cap hen is showing extreme weight loss. About 4 days ago we noticed she showed signs ( of what we thought ) , of brooding. So we did not let her in the coop during the day. For the past 2 days, she seemed less interested in food, but still was eating, but perhaps not as aggressively. We came home from work tonight and noticed she was not in coop with the other 6 hens. We searched for her and found her about 20 feet from coop, near deck. When we picked her up to put her in coop, we noticed the dramatic weight loss. I could feel her chest bone. Husband said he noticed her poop was a bit runny yesterday. I checked her eyes and they are clear. We checked her vent, after cleaning up the stuck- on poop, the area around her vent looked clear and normal. Any thoughts on what could be wrong, would be greatly appreciated. Currently we have her in a box , in our laundry room. And will try to feed her to see if she is hungry.
