EXTREMELY LOW EGG PRODUCTION

Give them more protein when they are molting. It takes a lot of energy to grow feathers. Hot temperatures almost always stresses them and egg products slows. Any stress will cause a loss in egg production. I will give extra vitamins in times of stress. I put vinegar in their water. Make sure they have shade and a clean coop. Make sure you use something to prevent mites, lice etc. I use a dust in the nesting boxes and in the coop. I will also put dust in there dusting box or in the spot they dust them self in. I spray the coop also, all the cracks, walls and ceilings. We are a no bug’s aloud coops. Same with flys lots of fly paper, changed regularly.
To increase there protein you can give them cooked eggs, hand full of dog food, meal worms. We raise our own meal worms. They are extremely easy to raise. You can give them fresh fruit, we have a couple of fruit trees. They love peaches and apples. Streak bones or any bones, but not chickens bones. Only because I think that is gross.
We also put Cayenne pepper, Garlic and red pepper in there feed. As a preventative For parasites.
These are some of the things that have helped ours. Hope this helps.
Thank you very much! Lots of great info here:goodpost:
I am questioning what you mean when you say they are all in a tub? Do you have pictures?

When I have had a sudden drop - it is always a hidden nest. Slowing this time of year...I think molt, and there may not be any eggs for several weeks.

Unless you see parasites, I would not worry about them. I think they were a bit older than they told you when you got them.

This bit?

I see the "rub," but I thought it was a typo for run, rather than for tub.
Yes I meant run sorry, typo

Just so everyone know, everyone except 3 molters and my silkie have started laying again. Even a newly laying pullet has begun! So 5 out of 9 layers are laying! Thank you for all the help. I just started getting production 4 or 5 days ago. Sorry I forgot to update. Thanks for the help!

Mine aren't quite back up to normal levels but up to 5-6 a day now fairly consistently.

Glad yours are doing well also!
Thanks, mine aren't all laying but it's getting better. Glad yours are doing better

I'm in Florida too and I believe it's the weather. People near me have had a lot of issues too. Even though hot is normal in our summers, we had a couple heat waves where it didn't cool down at night a bit, and I think that really messes with them.

To underscore the point, We have a bunch of leghorns that are a month late to lay. 😲

I have 11 hens and used to get 7-9 a day and out of the blue, it dropped to 2-3 a day. I thought it was due to the weather. Good food and more water and still nothing. And one day, almost by accident I found a hen WAY back under the coop with only about 6-7 inch inch clearance After getting the hen out of there, there were almost 5 dozen eggs + a few broken ones. Since I wasn't sure how old the eggs were, they were made into scrambled eggs and given back to them along with fruits and vegis. So try looking at every nook and cranny no matter how small as long as it is big enough to shove in a hen just in case.
