Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a home where the chickens conveyed with the property. I know absolutely nothing about chickens but there was no negotiation on the chickens staying or going, they had to stay and I loved the house. So I am now the owner of 3 chickens. What kind, I have no idea. I have been collecting the eggs daily, and cleaning the coop as I believe I should be from what I've read but. Now I have a problem.

All the hens are laying in one corner of the coop instead of the boxes. They've all taken to this one corner as they all used to take to one box so I don't know if I cleaned the box wrong or didn't put enough straw back in it or what...

Ideas? Thoughts? Additional resources and books for an extremely inexperienced chicken owner would be greatly appreciated. I'm muddling through this blindly but I do want what's best for the hens above all else.

How sweet of you! For starters, go ahead and add a litthe more straw to the box they used to lay in, just in case. Remove all bedding, straw etc from the corner where they are laying and put a barricade of some sort in that corner. A box, upside down bucket, whatever you find. Leave an egg they laid in the nestbox where you want them to lay. Put an x or something on it so you know whick one is old. They should come around nicely. Best of luck to you with your new house and your chickens!

I agree with all the above! If you don't want to leave an old egg in the nest, using a golf ball or other round/oval object would work too. Really, the chickens won't know the difference...it really works!

Hope that helps. :)
