When I got my 3 girls out of the coop this morning my oldest & gentlest had an eye completely closed. I have 1 new chicken & wonder if this one got in the way of a fight. She also pooped clear liquid with a bit of white afterward. I have her separated with water & food that has some Nutri Drench in it. She's eating and walking around ok. The others weren't picking on her.
Any ideas? Remedies?
Thanks.

if she has a eye injury I suggest using collidial silver . you can get the silver at any health food store. you put the silver directly into the eye. I use it for eye issues with my chickens and it works well. get the one with 500 parts per million of silver. it works very well. that said a swollen eye can also be a sign of respiratory illness so please keep a close watch on her for that. make sure her breathing is normal and no mucus is present. if you do start to notice mucus or breathing issues then likely the cause is respiratory. then in that case IF those other symptoms develop you would want to treat for respiratory. in my flock for respiratory I use tylan50. it is a excellent choice for respiratory illness. dose for small bird is 1/4 cc large birds 1/2 cc given once daily in the breast muscle for 5 days. you can get tylan50 and syringes at the feed store. ONLY if she develops symptoms of respiratory illness. otherwise if its only the eye that's involved the silver should clear it right up. you would use two drops in the afflicted eye three times a day. you might have to open the eye to get the silver in it. silver is a all natural product that works as a antibiotic and anticeptic. hope this helps and hope she gets well soon!

Thank you -- I picked up some Tetracycline the other day to have on hand & wondered if I should use it. I just dribbled some saline mix on it & she didn't fuss about it. I'll get some silver & keep an ear out for respiratory.

I think it might also be a good idea to use the tetracycline along with the silver. if she were mine that's what I would do.it will certainly help with the infection! keep us posted and remember when you purchase the silver get the one with 500 ppm that's parts per million. its much stronger. that's the one I use. hope she gets well very soon and keep an eye out for any respiratory symptoms because that can also cause swollen eye. please keep us posted on how she is doing. God bless

Thanks. Gotta figure out how to adjust the dosage for 1 chicken of Tetracycline but I'm with you that it could help whatever infection it is. She's out of the coop and no one is messing with her and she's in her normal sleeping spot for the day.

keep us posted . I think this should help. good luck and my prayers are with you. God bless

Thank you so much for you help -- got the silver spray and have been working on her eye. Also used tetracycline for about a week -- that was hard as I got a packet that makes enough for 100 chickens or so!
She's opening her eye and blinking some and getting around more. still hard to tell what's going on with it. but there are no other symptoms and the other 4 chickens seem fine, although the newest hasn't laid an egg since all this started!
