First, let me say that I've been lurking here for over a year (since my daughter first expressed an interest in chickens) and I would not have had the confidence to get them without the amazing resources, help and information here! You've made our journey so much easier.

Our current problem: one of our adult hens has been walking around with her right eye half shut all the time. It doesn't look swollen or discolored, just half open. She is eating well, walking fine, interested in her surroundings and otherwise behaving normally. She also shows no other signs of disease - the other eye is fine and she has no mucus, pus or runny nose.

I'm thinking it's a scratch, but it's been going on for a week now with no apparent change. I would have expected it to start healing by now. Am I wrong on that timeframe? Any other ideas? Recommended courses of action?

Suggestions are most appreciated, thanks!

She might have debris in her eye, you can make a homemade saline flush and flush the eye. Boil 1 cup of water with 1 level teaspoon of salt. Let it cool. You can use a syringe without needle to flush the eye with the solution. Use as much of the solution as you wish to flush the eye.
Then put a little neosporin ointment in her eye, not too much, it'll melt. Hopefully it'll work.
