Eye Infection ??? Corzya?? Cholera??? Injury??? Help!

Thanks so much for everyone's concern and help. I have quarantined her and got tweezers to pull out what I could (most of it). Broke apart in tiny pieces :( Not knowing how involved it was, I was afraid to try and pop it out fearing something (like an eyeball) might come with it, lol. Good news is her eye seems ok. The exudate pushed her eyeball backwards and as I cleaned it started coming forward. the pupil seems ok., altho there is redness around it (understandably) . The stuff seems to be coming from the front (nasal?) I will post a couple of picks in the morning of my progress. I filled it with terramycin and have started her on Sulfadimethoxine as she did seem a bit wheezy while I was working on her, She is such a good bird, thanks again for everyone's help!!

Oh, I hope she makes a full recovery! Good job on getting the eye all cleaned out. Never an easy job when working with such a delicate area! The sulfa is used for 5 to 7 days, no more. Pretty powerful stuff. Works really well with most respiratory ailments. It should help with any sinus infections too. Tylan works well with sinus infections too, but I think the sulfa will work just as well.

Good luck and keep us posted! I hope she makes a full recovery!! :)

I may get some tylan. I am afraid she isn't drinking enough to get enough sulfa. plus I only have the powder an it is next to impossible to know how much to mix. what if the dose for Tylan 50?

You can give injectable Tylan as an injection or orally down the beak. Because she is so ill, I would give her 1 cc split up into 2 injections a day. This stuff wears off after about 8 hours, so two shots a day, 1/2 cc in the morning and 1/2 cc in the evening. You can also shoot this down her beak as well, 1/2 cc times a day just like the injections, however it is not as effective as injections. Alternate left breast right breast and try to find a new spot each time so she doesn't get too sore. Injection dosage is 5 days. 7 days on the oral.

If you go the oral route, shoot it slowly down the beak so you don't aspirate her. I like to use Gerber baby food for liquid meds I put down the beak. Peas or string bean flavor. It is thick and goes down without aspirating the bird. It also adds calories.

Wow, you did a great job at getting that pus ball out!! Yay!!! I hope she continues to make a full recovery. I would imagine now that the pus ball is out, she can heal up quick. Give her a few days and post another pic of her eye. I am so happy!!!! Keep us posted!!!

Great job. She sure looks a lot better, the amount of gunk hiding by the eye in the picture is amazing, hope she recovers completely. :fl
