Eye infection help!

One of our new poults has an extremely swollen eye. I called the feed store where we bought her. They suggested using yellow puffer dust & putting Vaseline over her eye. Has anyone had experience with this? Any suggestions regarding treatment? Thank you!

I would flush out the eye well with sterile saline or eye wash (vetyricin makes one). Get a good look at the eye if you can. If there is any pus in there it will need to be removed completely, then flush well again. Then use either terramycin eye ointment (TSC carries) or plain neosporin in the eye 2 -3 times a day. It could just be from injury like a peck to the eye, or debris got in there. Also could be a sign of a respiratory disease, so looking for other symptoms of that would be a good idea.
