Hi, and thank you in advance to anyone who can help. I went out this morning and this poor girl has what appears to be an eye infection. I've been calling around but the earliest I can get her to any vet in my area is 10 days from now. I even called the veterinary emergency but they said they're swamped and said they won't see her. I applied Terramycin a few hours ago in the hope that it might help. I'm wondering if anyone can identify what's going on and maybe recommend something else I can do at home

Sorry about your hen. Does she have any nasal drainage, since her nostril is dirty in the picture? Her eyelid is swollen. Do you see any bubbles or drainage in her eye? Has there been any sneezing or crackly breathing? Tylosin is an antibiotic that you may want to try to get, to treat her for possible MG. Doxycycline is another, and both are sometimes found online for pigeons.

We are in California and from what I can tell we can't get any oral antibiotics for pets without a prescription :(. Next time I'm in Nevada I'm going to stock up!

There is no drainage in her eye, no sneezing or breathing issues. She is eating and drinking normally and her behavior is still fairly normal. She is a little less active than she was before but it's also really hot and so are the others. All I can really see is the intense swelling in that entire region.

yes u need antibiotics...the eye is the part you can see...its probably respiratory and treating the eye isn't treating the main problem. Fish mox (amoxicillin) is available at tractor supply or an aquarium store...la200 is usually also available at tractor supply...it is in the section for cows..goats etc... it can be injected or given orally. I personally give mine orally unless they r in really bad shape.

You guys were right - oral antibiotics are needed. I was able to find a vet and was given a 10-day supply of clavamox for her. The vet said she thinks there is an infection behind the eye which is putting pressure and causing the eye to protrude, possibly a sinus infection.
