Eye injury or infection

Our quail are a little over 11 weeks. On Friday, we noticed that one of them had a swollen eye. She seemed to otherwise be fine so we just left her alone (she is with 9 other quail, 7 females and 2 males). Then she looked like she was constantly sleeping, by Sunday morning we separated her from the others since they started pecking at her. We have been putting Terramycin on her eye 3 times a day. She is eating and drinking but she is still laying around a lot. The other day she had lots of bright green poop but hasn’t for over a day. She also hasn’t laid an egg since we separated her.

Including some pictures taken today.

Thoughts on what it might be? Her eye looks very damaged. And we haven’t noticed anything on the other quail.

most likely an injury with possibility of secondary infection. i’ve had several girls get eye injuries from breeding when there’s too many males and i’ve also been suspicious that some injuries may have been from predators (raccoons or cats) grabbing at them through wire. if she’s injured and separated, it’s completely normal not to lay. any stress can halt laying for days to weeks. it seems that you are treating appropriately, hopefully she will recover enough to rejoin the flock soon!!

Thanks! I hope so!

She unfortunately started having a hard time getting around. She had poop all over one of her legs which we thought was causing her to walk funny but after cleaning her leg we realized her walking funny was why poop was building up. We could not see or feel anything wrong, and ultimately decided to put her to rest after giving her some time to show any improvement. 😥
