Hello, I just got this beautiful new rooster from a friend who sadly had to rehome in a fast fast hurry. I was told about a week ago he got into a fight with another rooster who pecked his eye. No treatment was given other then quarantine, and being new he is still quarantined at my place.

I don’t know if I should start a treatment now for him or if it’s too late? If starting a treatment will benefit him what would the proper course be? I’ve never dealt with eye injuries before.

i am sorry for poor quality of pictures I can try again later for better ones if it would help

Thank yous so much for your time!!

Can you tell if that's pus or the eye?
I would try flushing with saline, press the eye and see if that's pus, if it is, then remove it.
Apply an eye ointment like Terramycin.

Do you notice anything else - mucous inside the beak, runny nostrils, coughing, sneezing, wheezing?

If you don't mind, show some photos of all of him too please :)

It looks like a plaque from pus that has sealed onto the eyeball. Those can be very hard to remove because they are dried out. I would start by irrigating the eye with saline eye wash, and Bausch and Lomb is about $4 at drug stores or Walmart. Plain Neosporin Ointment can be applied twice a day to fight infection and soften the plaque. Even if you can get it off the eye, there could be damage or a blind eye under it. But it won’t get any better on it’s own. You may have to use QTips, tweezers, or even a manicure tool to try to get it off. You will need another person to help hold him wrapped in a towel to work on him.

When a raccoon attack left one of my bantam roosters eye messed up, I did a saline rinse 2x a day, terrimycin 2x a day, along with neosporin 2x a day. He never got an infection but he did lose his eyesight In that eye.

Rinsed with saline n put some plain neosporan on his eye. I ask got better pics with some help....once the swine hit his eye I could actually see part of the eye behind it

I’ll treat it again in several hours and see what happens. His mouth and breathing seems fine to me atm. But def keeping super close watch on him.

thank yous all so so much for fast reply and such amazing help!!

Is he eating/drinking o.k.?

Just curious why they had to re home him quickly? What's the story:)
