EYE INJURY WHAT DO WE DO?

[Six Goldies]

I have a new situation with one of my Goldies. As I went to collect eggs, my girls came running to the fence as always. As I knelt down I noticed what looked like something sticking out of one of the girls eye. I went in their yard and after finally catching her, I started to pull it out only to discover it was connected. It appears to be part of the lower eyelid.





Next while examining the eye, we noticed that there are several dark spots on her comb plus a black tip..What is wrong with our girl?
Please advise what we should do about the eye. My husband wants to cut it off but I am worried about infection.
Anyone know why her comb is getting black spots?

She may have gotten injured or pecked, or it could be a deformity in the lower lid. The spots could be from peck wounds, or if you have mosquitoes now, from a mild case of fowl pox, but they look like pecks to me. If her eye seems inflamed or infected, you can flush it out with normal saline and apply Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin. Vetericyn eye gel is also good.

Thank you Eggcessive, I am so happy you are on. The piece of eyelid sticking out has a bulbous end to it, however her eye itself looks fine. I tried to get good pictures of it. Should the piece of eyelid be cut off? I am afraid if its left it could get torn more. Neosporin wont hurt her eye?

We do have those annoying no-see-ems and they are always around late in the day. I also thought the spots might have been peck holes. She is One of three Queens and number two in hierarchy. She is also 1 year old so I dont think it is a deformity.
