Eye issues, sick chicks need help!

I suspect you're possibly dealing with Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG.) As mentioned, only a necropsy will tell. You can contact your local extension office and find out the details how to go about getting a necropsy performed. If in fact it's some type of respiratory disease, it would be best to cull, disinfect everything with oxine and repopulate in about 6 months.

Thank you for the info, Dawg53. I know destruction is probably best but it aint gonna happen here! Daughter and wife would not allow it even if I wanted to. I guess we will just keep on keeping on and hope we at least get it under control, whatever it is.

Again, they do not seem to have any other respiratory symptoms at all. No sneezing, no coughing, no wheezing, no rattling, they have been eating and drinking just fine, their eyes are just messed up. Out of 8 chickens I now have, the little SFH is the sickest and both eyes are affected. The Cream Legbar roo has it in one eye but the other eye looks perfectly normal. If he is facing the direction of the good eye, you would have no idea he had any problems.

Here is a pic of the roo's bad eye...I started him on 1/2 cc of Tylan50 injection yesterday and his eye is much better today. This is today's pic. Yesterday, he could not open it at all and it was much pinker and more swollen.

Can you squeeze the pus out from his eyelid?

They're pets, right? If the Tylan doesn't work, get some Baytril and give each one that's sick .02ml per 100 grams orally for 5 days.

I just tried again and tried a little harder. Was not able to get anything out. It is almost like a cataract over a portion of his eye. I did open his mouth and look all inside and did not see anything at all. And yes, they are pets with benefits! They will never be eaten.

Should I try lancing the puss area with a needle or something? It is quite a bit less than yesterday so maybe the Tylan is knocking it down already. The SFH chick has the same puss looking eyelids. She is much younger and not doing as well with it, though. This roo is just as feisty as he was before he got it. Also, not that I think about it, my Speckled Sussex started getting a pink coloration around her eye 5 or 6 days ago. That is about when I started them all on tetracycline in their water and hers cleared up within a day.
