Eye poke or illness?

I had a bout with pseudomonas about five years ago, we gave the birds 0.60ml of zactran every three or four days. I forget if it was gram-negative or gram-positive but I do know that Tylan and Baytril would not touch it. Ask your vet for preloaded syringes of zactran, 0.60ml and give the shots SQ meaning just under the skin and not in the meat. View attachment 2833761View attachment 2833765
That's so very similar to how Pickle's eye looks before I try to flush it and look at it. I'll call the vet for that first thing. Luckily my husband grew up on a farm with a ton of chickens so he gets to do the injection. Thank you so much for sharing!

It's gram negative, and the strain of pseudomonas aeruginosa your peafowl had was resistant to enrofloxacin, but that doesn't mean all strains are.

I doubt the vet will prescribe anything without actually seeing the bird, especially something like Zactran.

She said she is rural so her vet might be like mine, I can pick up a bottle off the shelf and go home. Although, at $2. per ml it is a bit pricey since you use so little you don't want a big bottle. Out here going to the vet is like going to the co-op, you pick up what you need to take care of your animals. I can consult with her without the bird as she is genuinely concerned about not stressing sick birds.
