I have a bresse pullet that is now keeping one eye closed all the time. I noticed a small red spot above the eye but it doesn't seem swollen. She also seems less energetic and is sleeping a lot during the day. She was hatched mid April. Would a peck cause the redness and the eye issue cause the extra sleeping or is something more serious going on?

We did loose two silkies a couple weeks ago, we think the one got jumped on by a larger bird coming down from the roost as she was really small and the other i had thought was heat related since it was 95+ that day for the first time. Maybe we were wrong about these two deaths.

It could be a peck wound. How is the coop ventilation? Is there dust, ammonia odors, or any mold? Those things can cause eye irritation and can lead to respiratory infections. Is she standing around puffed up (hunched) or having diarrhea, or eating poorly? Is there any sneeze, eye or nasal drainage that might be sings of a respiratory infection? You could put some Terramycin eye ointment or plain neosporin into her eye twice a day if it seems irritated. Saline is good to clean the eye once.

Coop ventilation is good and there isn't any smell. When standing she does seem hunched and not eating well today unless she ate before I was out there today. Haven't seen her poop. Does this look like something I should isolate her for?
