Eye problem

my chicken sometimes wakes up with one of her eyes closed and wont open it for a while... when she does, she leaves it somewhat closed... and it looks kinda swollen, is it an eye infection or something?

Could be. How old is your chicken? This is what i do bearing in mind I live in Australia and you can't just go to a store to buy antibiotics for chickens here. I get a tea bag ( normal black tea type) and pour boling water over it and let the water cool. once cool remove the tea bag and wash the chickens eye with that. Seems to work great for me. I am sure there is someone in the US that can tell you what meds to buy for your chicken if you want to go that way.
