There are lots of look-alike illnesses in chickens and they don't necessarily always have text book symptoms, either. Unless you don't mind culling, it is important to treat it aggressively and watch closely. It certainly sounds like something contagious to me, and if Duramycin isn't working, than try something stronger. If one dies, get a necropsy; then you'll know what you're dealing with and how to treat it.

Well, the rooster that I thought was going to die has gotten worse, but is still living. We finally moved him inside and are keeping a very close eye on him. I just use straw for their bedding. It doesn't seem to be very dusty.
