My genetics project...
A Salmon Faverolles roo x Silkie hens.
I have some questions of course!! and what I think. Please let me know if these are right and HELP please on skin color.
My roo is a salmon Faverolles. My Silkie hens are buff, painted, and blue (with silvery feathers on neck? self or blue?).

1. I read on one online place females down will be colored black and males light. But now I am thinking that this would not be right as the Faverolles hen would determine the sex-linkage and I am not using a Faverolles hen. Right???
2. Since the hooked feather "h" in Silkies is recessive, no chicks will show silkie feathers in the F1 generation?
3. What about black skin? I am confused on skin color.
4. Crested, cheek feathers, polydactyl, rose combs, and beards?
5. Varying amts of feathers on shanks and toes but still feathered?

This is what I have......

The black ones have black skin, the light ones have light skin.

This one that has dark shoulders and light skin...



This rather blue one...just one...



Varying amounts of brown in their wings...all of them...



Black with black skin but still the brown on their wings...



The same comb type I think...





"Head bonnets", sideburns, and beards...some more so than others...





Most of the black ones have some reddish around the tops and bottoms of their eyes...



Varying amts of feathers on their shanks and toes....and all have 5 toes on both feet...

Come on people. This is the place for genetics! I need some help just to make sure I am getting things right.

I checked the 4 chicks that hatched under one of my Silkies yesterday and today. There is one black that looks like the other blacks. One that is a very light buff...I see no spots anywhere...maybe white??? Another buff like the others with brown on their backs And...a new color. A darker golden color with black skin!

Found more info on black skin this am:

"when you breed a not Silkie male to a Silkie female, the pullets from the cross will be completely light skinned just like their father. The cockerels from this cross will have one gene for light skin and one for dark skin. Because the gene for dark skin is incompletely dominant, you'll see some traits of the recessive light skin "underneath". The cockerels won't be as dark skinned as a Silkie or as light as a light skinned chick".

So, based on this...all of my dark skinned chicks should be roos and my light skinned chicks should be pullets???
Not so sure about crests anymore. Maybe some will have none but some do seem to show that one is growing there!

That would make sense as I have about 50% light skinned and 50% dark skinned.
