You could also put them on a limited profile view. You can make a new group and edit the setting for that group as you please and put said person in there. That way they could only see what you want them to see, you would only have to see what you want to see, and you would still be "friends" to avoid raising eyebrows. That's what I do with annoying colleagues.

The privacy suggestion is a great idea (set them in a group....). You can also start another account and use that one, leaving your existing account alone. Might be a hassle to do that, but that's what some of the "gamers" do. Have one account for their game friends and another account for everyone else.

Well, I decided to go ahead and unfriend them. Seemed the less drama way to go. They live in another state anyway.

If you are lucky, they have 982 friends and won't be able to easily figure out who disappeared. My list is much shorter than that and I still have trouble figuring out who is gone when my number changes.

I have blocked someone from seeing anything I post either on my wall or anyone else's. So when they go to my wall, it just looks like I never post anything. I went to my account and then privacy settings and customized them to exclude that one person from a few things.
