What if we can find a way to negate the initial loss of weight? It's a theory I am working on.

I would love to find a way to do this. I recently purchased and expensive two day old peachick and the stress of watching it lose weight for several days gave me a bunch of new gray hairs.

I don't keep track of weights that first week, or add anything to their water, unless severe shipping stress is evident (had that one time).

Just for grins you should try it weighing them at hatch or upon arrival, then every day for the first week.

BTW, how about broody raised chicks? Do they loose weight post-hatch too?
Inquiring minds want to know, and it won't be until next year around here!
