Fair price for male coturnix

Sounds good but don't fertility go down at that man hens

A coturnix roo can easily keep 7 hens fertile. The hens can stay fertile for several days after a breeding, but he'll breed each hen more often than needed for fertility anyway. I just did an incubation test for fertility on a one year old roo with 6 hens and he had better than 95% fertility on those eggs. Not bad for an old man.

Yea well I have 24 eggs in the bator right now and what you think the ratio will be male to female jw

Glad to hear you were able to get rid of the extra males without a problem.

I have attended various bird swaps in Wisconsin this spring and averaged $3-4 on male Coturnix. It really does depend on the location, as dc3805 said, and buyer's intent. Falconers and dog trainer usually are not quite as concerned about the sex of the birds they buy (particularly if they don't plan on raising quail themselves), but quail breeders and hobbyists avoid purchasing extra males whenever possible.

Thanks Bengt747! I haven't quite gotten them out the door yet, but hopefully this week to make room for some more females. I can see there being much greater market for the males in rural areas where hunting dogs are raised, but I have a hunch that doesn't go on much around here. I'm sure as other posters have said, I'll be lucky to give them away.
