They are almost 16 wks now and really pretty. Most are pullets from broody (10/14) and the 2nd group is 9/10 ( adopted from local breeder) current pics to be posted soon, they are on my laptop. All these babies are from late August hatches. I am in San Diego mountains, temp varies from 35 low to 100 high... the were moved to big henhouse at 8 wks, kept in separate area till 12 wks.

So cute. I dont have any silkies but is on my list to get

Thank you for the concern and for all the help. My husband took care of the chick last evening when I received the message. I sure hope it won't run through the rest of the chicks! Do you always get vaccinated chicks?

Yes I get vaccinated chicks and vaccinate any that I bring in from outside sources. I would keep these chicks far from your flock and always always wash your hands and wear different shoes and jackets etc when going between the chicks and the flock.

Two of my girls have already laid their first eggs! They hatched on October 14th, that seems pretty early to me for laying already. Are anyone else's fall hatchlings already laying?

That does seem early. I got my first (and only) egg Saturday. They hatched on September 18. What breed of chickens do you have?

The two that have layed are a RIR and a bantam EE. My poor RIR suffered a pretty bad prolapse from her first egg, and I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow.
