I am in the market for silkies and I finally found somewhere I can get them in August. We have two houses, one for little chickens and one for our big girls. In 2-3 weeks we will have a home for the silkies. But they won't be outside for weeks and it might be already getting cold outside so I am looking for any advice for getting chicks in late summer/early fall. Thanks

! Great to have you with us! Not sure where you live but there should be plenty of summer left if you get your chicks in August. Here's the link to Raising Baby Chicks - you should find some useful info. Good luck to you!

I live up north in Maine so after August it's warm for a couple weeks and then that's it. Thanks for responding so fast

Welcome to BYC. Locate the Maine thread in the Social forum, 'Where am I? Where are you!' section. Hopefully you can locate some local birds.
