I just did a major fall cleaning and hen house remodel.
I use the layering method and only do a major cleaning once a year. That being said, I don’t put food or water in their coop and I live in a dry climate. I’ve had no problems with bugs and even on the hottest summer days there is no smell.
I insulated it, painted it and payed new flooring. I’m adding new perches and have plastic bins underneath with sand that can easily be scooped out in the morning.
can’t wait to finish it tomorrow and then I’m going to work on their yard.
