In northeast Pennsylvania, my young black australorp pullets began laying just as the days began getting shorter. Each lady is averaging 4 eggs a week. Their eggs are not jumbo, but are a bit larger than store bought "large".

Is this a normal frequency for this time of year? My first flock....

4-5 eggs a week sounds decent for Australorps. With pullets, I really haven't noticed that when they start laying makes that big of a difference in production the first laying cycle... it is when they molt and when they start their second+ laying cycles that it really depends on what you do so far as putting them under lights.
