Hi there,
I am just beginning my journey into backyard chickens. I was a commercial chicken grower many, many years ago, and really didn't like the industry. I am now in the process of narrowing down plans for a coop and deciding which layers to purchase. I plan to start with the layers and then if all goes well, move into growing broilers. As a divorced woman, I am honing my skills at building and construction. I ran across this website from Pinterest, and decided to join. I have raised other farm animals in the past, but am starting over again, and decided chickens would be my first foray into farming again. I would love to free-range them, but my two dogs have put that idea to rest for the moment. They need to learn that chickens are our friends, not playthings to chase and kill. As far as hobbies, I have many. I love crafts and sewing, though I don't do as many as I used to. I like canning and gardening also. I am a school bus driver, so I am involved with other school activities in my free time. I enjoy being with the kids since mine are grown and out of the house. I am also a grandmother to my first granddaughter who is 2.

:welcome

You will find a wealth of information here. There are many threads about gardening, quilting, building coops, hatching eggs, raising meat birds etc etc etc.

It is a really friendly fun place to ask questions, answer questions, make friends and get help when you need it.

Does it show that I dig this site? :D

The articles section I find very helpful.

Welcome, welcome to BYC. If you’re like me you will find that your new hobby of chickening will become time consuming simply because you can’t stop reading BYC. It is so very addictive, as chickens are in general. Even though you’ve been around chickens in the past, I’m sure these will be quite different because they will be pets. And your granddaughter will love the chicks as well.
