I have been trying to hatch various eggs in an old LG still air incubator. (the automatic turner is missing now so I hand turn, the eggs are just laying on the wire tray at the bottom) We had trouble with the temperature not being even, and bad temperature spikes, so my husband the handyman rigged up a computer fan that sits inside it. There was really nowhere good to mount it on the inside of the lid, which was the original plan, so it just sits on the tray in a corner, with a cushion of paper towels under it. The temperature holds steady very nicely now, but we are still having 0% hatches. It occurred to my husband tonight, after throwing out a bunch of nasty rotten turkey eggs, that maybe the fan is a problem. It vibrates a tiny little bit, and he worries that even though it is hardly even a noticeable vibration, that over 3 or 4 weeks of incubation, it could slowly scramble the eggs. Is this a real concern?

Most modern incubators have fans, all fans will vibrate to some degree. I have a pc fan in both of my home made incubators and am as I type looking at my very first chick hatch. I do not think the fan is the problem.

I was pretty sure it was ok, but we're just looking into every possibility to figure out why we're not having so much luck with our hatches lately. I'll let my husband know that the fan is ok.
