[Onslow's Hens]

Eggs due to hatch on Thursday, Feb 7th. We candled last night and we have 9 eggs developing nicely. One of the eggs that we thought was from our Australorp because it was so big is definitely a double yolk with 2 chicks developing! Both are moving about in the egg and look ok as far as we can tell from candeling it. I don't think this egg is from my Australorp now since it is a double. Usually my young pullets lay the doubles so this egg might be from either a Barred Rock or a Buff Orp that are still pullets. I hop the twins continue to develop and make it to hatch.... didn't expect this.

Have you read much on double-yolkers? I've heard of them hatching but its rare.

Candled them last night. I think about half of the set dozen have chicks in them. In one, I think I saw a head for the first time!

Candled again, but no sign of internal pips or movement. No peeping so far, either, though the parakeets could have drowned them out if they did, since I've had the bator in my room.

Still nothing from the eggs. Thought I heard a faint peep, but that could have been anything.
The incubator says its day 18 for some reason, when I know I set them on the 13th of last month. :/

Its out of a real dark egg, too. Must be from the younger hens.

I'm going to get some Ameraucanas chicks today to keep them company. I think three is the minimum order. Should I get black, blue, or splash? I don't know, I am so indecisive

I think I'll get Lavender. So glad that groundhog didn't see his shadow this year!
